Green Laceleaf Japanese Maple -
Acer palmatum Dissectum Viridis
Zone 5-9
Green Laceleaf Japanese Maples are becoming more common in the
landscape as their red leafed brothers have been overplanted in many areas.
These dissectums are called 'Viridis' from the Latin word meaning
Sprout, Green, Lively and Youthful. Also our word Virile sprouts from this
Latin word. I'm wandering here..... 2 years of Latin at St Mary's High
School in Lansing and now I am putting it to use...This is a weeping green
laceleaf Japanese maple with the dissected leaves having 7 to 9 lobes with a
fall color of yellow gold to red. Does well in shade. Reaches 5 feet in
about 8 years and will normally be wider than tall. Can be grown in
planters.
Acer Palmatum 'Seiryu' Seiryu Japanese Maple
upright laceleaf maple
Zone 6-9 possibly 5
Another Green Lace leaf Maple the Seiryu is probably the only upright vase
shaped laceleaf Japanese Maple. The foliage is bright light green in the
summer changing to a gold, orange, yellow to red in the fall and the leaf is
slightly smaller than most other laceleaf maples, deeply incised with 7
lobes. Leafs can scorch in hot summer sun so plant in a somewhat sheltered
space. Non descript red flowers in early spring. Will grow 8-15' high by
7-10' wide at maturity. Very easy to grow in rich, moist organic soils. This
is an excellent disease resistant variety. These lace leafs can give your
landscape a zen like atmosphere whether planted singly or in a larger
grouping. As with most Japanese maples they are quite shade tolerant and
would look and do well mixed with a planting of white pine. Can be grown in
planters.
Butterfly
Strong White variegation on the leaf. A small tree with delicate branches,
it has unusual pink and red colors

Japanese Maples for landscape sales
we highly recommend our
root growing bags for easy transplanting as the root can not
penetrate the bag..
Pest & disease problems: As with all Japanese
maples mice, shrews and voles can be a problem in winter. Some years back I
entered the Japanese Maple greenhouse in late January only to discover my
year old seedlings were stacked like cordwood in two neat little piles
awaiting, I guess, the shrew family work crew to haul them off. Needless to
say I wasn't happy. I would have given them better (and cheaper) rations but
they would have nothing to do with my offers. So watch out for shrews and
mice as they can devastate a patch of Japanese maple in quick order.
