The Royal Purple Smoketree (Cotinus coggygria) or smokebush, is an up-right, small tree that is a wonderful speciman tree. The leaves are a rich purple color and the feathery plumes of flowers make the whole tree look hazy or “smokey”. It is easy to grow and tolerates drought well.
