Description
Black Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is a somewhat rounded shrub in the Rosaceae family that grows freely producing many suckers. This shrub often becomes quite leggy. The small, white flowers of the black chokeberry form in clusters of 5-6. The fruit of the chokeberry is edible but very astringent, so often used to make jams and jellies. This is a great shrub to plant in a wooded garden area that may be a bit boggy or wet. It’s also great for attracting birds and other wildlife.
