Description
The Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) is one of the earliest blooming native trees. Naturally it grows along the edge of the woods, along streams and in thicket areas. It has pretty pink-purple flowers blooming directly on the stems of the tree and even the trunk of the tree. As a member of the legume family, the flowers are very similar to that of the pea plant. Blooming at the same time as daffodils and tulips, it is a perfect landscape tree in a clump or planted as a single tree.
