Description
Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) is a small tree or shrub that grows well in full sun to part shade. It is native to the woodlands and streambanks from Canada down into Mexico.
Pruning of witch hazel should be done in early spring, if one choses to prune. But flowers are produced on old wood, so it will result in fewer flowers for that season. Flowers bloom in late fall or into winter, making witch hazel a beautiful addition to any garden space.
Moths and butterflies love the flowers of witch hazel. The fruit attracts birds and small mammals.
