Habitat:
Tolerant of shade, but grows best in full sun.
Requires full sun to produce its vibrant fall color. Very
adaptable to various soil types and environmental conditions.
Drought resistant.
Habit:
Considered a slow grower.
The Burning Bush grows 5-6' high and spreads 5-8'.
Bushy and compact form. Burning Bushes make excellent
hedge rows or specimen plants.
Leaves:
Leaves are egg shaped and are medium green color in the summer and turn brilliant
red in the fall, 2-7" long.
Fruit:
Orange-red fruit that holds into the winter. Great for
wildlife food.
Flowers:
Insignificant. purple, June-July. Smaller than a dime, the flowers appear on the
shrub in the spring.
Bark:
Unique corky bark. Winged, 4 sided twigs.
Wood:
Unique winged stems. The branches hold snow
well and have a nice rounded shape.
Distribution: Native
to Japan, China and Korea.
