Vintage Motorcycle
Restoration
As with all motorcycle restoration
projects perfection is the goal but is rarely achieved. My first
project was a 1968 Kawasaki W2SS that I have owned since 1970. I
stripped it down to the frame and had it powder coated by a fella in
Boyne Falls, Michigan. The chroming was done by Browns Plating in
Kentucky. Unfortunately Browns went out of business probably due to
environmental laws. Ronnie Brown did an excellent job on chroming
and his turn around time in mid winter was about a month. Finding a
new chrome shop has not been easy. Fuzzy Gildner at the Harley shop
in West Branch had not found a new chrome shop to use yet nor had
Steve at Cycle-Moore in Interlochen. There are still a few left in
the Midwest. On my new project bike I decided to go with Proctor's
Custom Chrome Plating in the Muskegon area. Proctor's appears to
specialize in mainly smaller chrome jobs. I sent the parts in on May
9th 2016 and as of June 20th they haven't started on them yet. I will
keep you informed of the speed and quality of the work done at
Proctor's. The parts were finished August 30th. The chroming was
excellent though the speed was not.
