Habitat:
Native to the eastern part of the United States,
this shrub grows well in dappled or partially shaded areas.
Tolerates sand, clay, loamy or rocky soil. Prefers moist,
well drained soil but can handle some drought.
Habit:
Grows 4-6' feet high with
an equal or slightly greater spread. This shrub is
suckering and colonizing.
Leaves:
Resembling a maple leaf, they are dark green, 2-5" wide & long,
turning beautiful in the fall. The leaves and twigs are browsed
by whitetail deer.
Flowers:
Beautiful, but without much fragrance. They are white
clusters that range from 1 to 3" wide and bloom in May or June.
Fruit:
Persisting into the winter, the berries are black and shiny.
Turkey's, squirrels, songbirds and grouse all enjoy the berries
of this plant.

Copper/brown to gray/silver and smooth.
Distribution:
Eastern United
States and eastern Canada.
