Asian fir tolerant of many soils. First discovered for the
western world by Ernest Wilson in 1903, an English plant collector on
one of his many trips to China. (1876-1930) A timber tree in
China.
Leaves. The needles
of the Ernest fir are 1 1/2 to 3" long.
Pests. Possibly the
balsam wooly adelgid.
Distribution.
Ernest fir originate in the western provinces of China.
Other.
Excellent as an ornamental and tolerant of many soils.
Unavailability of seed from China has restricted the use in
landscaping in the US.
