 Red Oak  Quercus rubra

Red Oak is a fast growing oak, our irrigated Red Oaks have put on 5' of growth in some years, maturing with a broad round crown, leaves are 4-8 inches long, deeply indented, shiny dark green above turning a red or brown in fall. Red Oak acorns are 3/4-1" long, mature in two years. This oak tree will tolerate a wide range of soils and is an excellent lumber tree and transplants fairly easily if grown in root bags. Red Oak is moderately drought tolerant, prefers sandy loam, well drained and a touch on the acid side. Red Oak can withstand polluted air, full sun and should be planted more as it is a good landscape tree. Red Oak is native to the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia , Delaware , Georgia , Iowa , Illinois , Indiana , Kansas , Kentucky , Massachusetts , Maryland , Maine , Michigan , Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Many of the native and non-native where these trees grow have a multitude of tree nursery outlets to choose from as well as many tree farm grown selections.
